Tim Harford

I just came across an interesting stat in "The Logic of Life":
every year that women [presumably in the US] delay having children increases their lifetime earnings by 10%.
That seems like a huge effect.

The research (which I haven't read) is by Amalia Miller at www.virginia.edu/economics/miller.htm

Just glancing over it - her instruments are all a bit dodgy. They satisfy the informative requirement, but I'm not so sure that they are by any means valid.

Still, it makes a good sound byte.

By the way, my repeatedly critical commenting is only because you've got such a great blog that's worth checking daily!
